Shreveport-Bossier Launches Black Restaurant Week

Shreveport-Bossier is celebrating Black Restaurant Week from October 20-26. The week is organized by the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce and aims to highlight the many black-owned restaurants in the area. Over seventeen restaurants are participating this year and providing a diverse culinary experience.

Meagan Davis, the Chairwoman of the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce, summarized the impact of Black Restaurant Week on KTAL News as going, “...beyond just enjoying a meal. It’s about empowering our community, celebrating our culture, and contributing to the growth of businesses that are the backbone of our economy. When we invest in Black culinary talent, we are not only fostering entrepreneurship but also preserving the rich, diverse culinary heritage that is part of our identity.” Black-owned businesses are an integral part of Shreveport-Bossier’s economic landscape and are a crucial foundation of the city’s culinary landscape.

Participating restaurants include everything from Shreveport-Bossier classics, like Orlandeaux’s Cafe, to newer favorites, such as Cafe Boba Tea. You can eat everything from Cajun seafood to vegan-friendly barbecue from these restaurants, but no matter what, you will be eating something delicious. Cafe Boba Tea and Yum Yum Dessert Bar are both within five minutes of Centenary and offer a great option for a little treat.

To celebrate, participating restaurants will be offering a $10 lunch special and a $20 dinner special. You can find the list of participating restaurants, their specials and discounts, and what day and time these specials are offered on the Shreveport-Bossier Black Restaurant Week website

Black Restaurant Week is not only about the foods and restaurants themselves—there are events too! On October 25, there will be the Foodie Festival from 12 pm-7 pm. Last year’s Foodie Festival had over 25 local restaurants participating, as well as several food trucks. You can attend the festival at Milam Street KICK (1210 Milam Street, Shreveport, LA). Entry is free.

Rotel Fest is October 26 from 12 pm-7 pm at the Louisiana Daiquiri Cafe (1881 Texas Ave, Shreveport, LA). It will feature live music, entertainment, and a whole lot of rotel. The event will last from 11 AM to 8 PM, and entry costs $20.

If you want a great experience and amazing food for a low cost this week, think about going to support a local black-owned restaurant. When dining, make sure you use #EatBlack318 when sharing your experience on social media. You can also browse the hashtag to explore local dining.
